Be a part of ConversAsians 2014, a special edition where Esplanade's biennial ConversAsians is held in conjunction with AAPPAC's Annual Conference.
Just as AAPPAC aims to foster collaboration and exchange, ConversAsians provides a platform to engage with contemporary Asian artists to build meaningful partnerships that will enable art to flourish. ConversAsians 2014 is the perfect opportunity for local artists to engage in dialogue and make connections with leading performing arts centres across Asia Pacific and leading artists from Asia.
This year's theme, "Heart of the Arts", brings into focus the creators of art. What inspires them? How do they view art? Where is their imagination taking them? The three-day programme features three outstanding Asian artmakers who will share their insights and perspectives on their art and practice.
Ushio Amagatsu (Japan), founder and artistic director of the famed Sankai Juku, has put the art of Butoh on the international stage. Atul Kumar (India), artistic director of The Company Theatre, is renowned for his acclaimed interdisciplinary works that seek to investigate the human condition. Award-winning performer and composer Dick Lee (Singapore) has made his mark with his music, from hit albums to musical theatre to songs for Asia's pop stars. In addition to hearing their personal stories, watch an excerpt of The Company Theatre's highly lauded Hamlet - The Clown Prince and the performance of one of Sankai Juku's signature works, the stunning KAGEMI: Beyond the Metaphors of Mirrors.
From the heart to the mind - join two of Asia's thought leaders for stimulating discussions that will give you much to think about. Dr Farish Noor (Malaysia) and T. Sasitharan (Singapore) put forth their views on identity in a global world in the 21st century and the role that the arts play. Adding a touch of wit and wordplay to the programme, well-known personalities from the performing and literary arts in Singapore battle it out in a lively interactive debate. Is it necessary to be an optimist to work in the arts? Weigh in with your thoughts!
Don't miss this special edition of ConversAsians 2014. Take the time to reflect on the experience of art, and build the foundations for making art that matters.
